Metro West Community Development Organization

The Metro West Community Development Organization (MWCDO), a program of the Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization (DSCDO) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit located in Cleveland, Ohio. MWCDO’s mission is to “Revitalize our neighborhoods, celebrate our history, and strengthen collaboration, diversity and redevelopment”. This VISTA project will focus on building capacity for affordable housing, increased energy efficiency, and the development of economic opportunities in and around La Villa Hispana. La Villa Hispana, an enclave of Cleveland’s Clark-Fulton neighborhood, is the cultural and economic hub of the Hispanic community in Cleveland. MWCDO is looking for a VISTA member to build capacity in several programmatic areas focused on economic and community development. The VISTA member will engage in planning, development, partner-building, and outreach tasks that relate to expanding homeownership opportunities and lowering the cost burden of housing for La Villa residents. The VISTA member will conduct research and engage in outreach to assist residents in improving their job skills and training while also identifying potential economic opportunities in and around La Villa Hispana. The VISTA member will also assist in general placemaking efforts in La Villa Hispana by actively engaging in door knocking campaigns, attending block club meetings, and working an informational booth at La Placita, an annual Hispanic themed pop-up open air market held by MWCDO and community partners in La Villa Hispana.
