AmeriCorps Excellence in STEM
 
 
 
AmeriCorps Excellence in STEM (ACES) is based out of Wolfson Campus and offers small group, and one-on-one tutoring to support high school and college students to help them succeed in their STEM classes. Members are paired with a site coordinator to target the students who are facing challenges in STEM courses and provide them with tutoring services. We are currently partnered with Miami Jackson Senior High School, Miami Beach Senior High School, and iTECH at Thomas A. Educational Center. ------------------------ Fall Service only: must commit to approximately 16 hours/week. Application deadline: July 12th 2019 Start date: August 5th 2019 --------------------- Requirements: Members Must be at least 17 years old with parental/ guardian consent. Must be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident. Must be in good academic standing if enrolled in college courses. Member must have taken the course in which they will tutor and achieved a grade of “B” or higher or pass a competency test. Must commit to completing the hours requirements as stated for the position. Must pass a National Criminal History background Check, an FBI background check and a local background check, and be cleared through the national Sex Offender database (www.nsopw.gov). This is contingent on any member beginning their service year. Members must demonstrate leadership skills, take initiative, and work well in team setting. Member Duties : Members will provide tutoring and wraparound services to disadvantaged students at the high school and college level in three local high schools as well as at the MDC Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami, FL. Members will serve in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) classrooms. Meet with designated teacher(s)/lab managers to plan tutoring lessons and assist students with creating academic goals and track student progress. Members will receive training and National Service networking opportunities. Members will meet with Program Manager monthly to provide student progress and member performance. Members will prepare time sheets and submit weekly to Program Manager.
