LCCT: Restore Education- Marketing and Outreach Specialist

Postsecondary credentials are the gateway to family-supporting wages and the key to breaking the intergenerational transmission of poverty that is prevalent in San Antonio and South Central Texas. To address this critical issue, Restore Education offers a continuum of services in its three programs, Passport to College, Compass, and Fast Pass. The Passport to College program provides at-risk youth across San Antonio (those who are economically disadvantaged, teen parents or former foster youth) who have dropped out of high school, with an opportunity to earn their GED and prepare for college simultaneously. Students are provided with enriched preparation for their GED, including college test preparation and comprehensive college/workforce connection services. The Compass Program provides GED graduates and first generation college students with ongoing support and guidance as they complete their 2- and 4-year degrees at local colleges. These students have access to a personal mentor dedicated to their success, in addition to a designated study area, located next to the college campus, staffed with tutors and equipped with laptops and textbooks. The Fast Pass program provides free College Readiness workshops for students at low-income high schools. Staff also provides teachers at these high schools with low cost professional development regarding college readiness.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will enhance Restore Education’s program capacity in order to support excellence and growth by assisting in the creation of digital and print resources that increase community awareness of and involvement in Restore Education’s mission and activities as well as increase recruitment of students. The VISTA will serve at our main site. Their goals will include an update of the agency’s website and promotional materials along with the creation and implementation of a social media plan by January 2019. As a result of these advancements, more low-income, minority youth and young adults in San Antonio will be provided with educational opportunities to prepare for their GED or college. These goals will also increase Restore Education’s ability to impact the community because of greater awareness, professionalism, and credibility of the organization.
