2018 Habitat Construction Volunteers Systems VISTA

Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Nearly 20% of Wisconsin residents pay more than 50% of their family income for housing. With an already large but increasing need for affordable housing in our state, the 37 local Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Wisconsin are working hard to address that need by partnering with low-income families to build, rehab or repair homes. The Habitat for Humanity of Wisconsin VISTA program’s goal is to strengthen affiliates and increase their capacity. With passion, commitment, and hard work our VISTA members help affiliates as they bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area, Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County was established in 1989. Habitat Waukesha builds decent, affordable homes for families who are unable to purchase a home through traditional methods. By providing a home with an affordable zero-interest mortgage, homeowners obtain self-sufficiency and break the cycle of poverty. HFHWC built 23 homes in its first 24 years and has begun a period of growth. In Fiscal Year 2018, Habitat plans to complete 7 homes as part of its on-going redevelopment of White Rock Avenue.
