Brown University AmeriCorps VISTA Fellowship
 
 
 
The Brown University AmeriCorps VISTA Fellowship is a full-time, post-graduate service and fellowship opportunity through the Swearer Center at Brown University. VISTA fellows are matched with a local organization, state agency, or a Swearer Center department to build capacity in organizations fighting poverty. Agencies work in the education, health, arts and/or economic justice sector. VISTA fellow placement sites include: Breakthrough Providence Inspiring Minds D'Abate Community School Beat the Streets Providence College Advising Corps at Brown University Generation Citizen Providence After School Alliance RI Office of Innovation Times2 STEM Academy Swearer Center - Communications and Public Engagement Swearer Center - Community Partnership The position responsibilities include data management, data assessment, volunteer recruitment, grant writing, fundraising, and other systems building. Our program provides high-impact professional development and training that enhances our VISTA fellows’ personal and professional skills. Trainings will include role-specific support in research/data and building community partnerships while also learning valuable skills in cultural humility and career planning. Campus lectures and library resource workshops will also be accessible for VISTA fellows at Brown. The fellowship is team-focused and provides a variety of resources to help you, so you can become a key player at your placement site. Our aim is to help you make the most of your service year experience.

Member Duties : Member duties will vary based on site placement. The following is a sample list of duties for our current VISTA sites: Creating and streamlining systems to lead improved campus-community partnerships Connecting research needs of community organizations and government agencies with research capacity of Brown University Volunteer recruitment and training and support systems development Building systems to track student engagement leading to improved student trainings Data analysis that will improve overall program outcomes Creating an alumni network of youth from after school programs Data collection of Brown students and elementary students to be disseminated to the RI Department of Education
