VISTA: Lula Lake Land Trust Engage and Educate

Enter your program description (2000 characters or less) *: The Lula Lake Land Trust (LLLT) is a non-profit conservation organization. The mission of LLLT is to preserve the natural and historic landscapes surrounding Rock Creek and its tributaries through conservation, education, and low impact recreation. LLLT seeks to create a network of conservation properties within the watershed that will ensure protection and enhancement of local water quality; protect areas which maintain contiguous forest cover, trails and scenic views; provide opportunities for research and education programs; and designate areas suitable for public access, use and enjoyment. LLLT currently holds 3,500 acres of land in fee simple ownership within the former Durham Coal Mining area, and another 2,500 acres of reclaimed mining land is protected by conservation easements. LLLT has also worked closely with Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to protect an additional 1,500 acres for Cloudland Canyon State Park, and develop a popular 60-mile network of multi-use, recreational trails around the coal tailings known as the Cloudland Connector Trail system.
