CCSR Energy & Water Efficiency Coordinator

The City & County of Honolulu's Office of Climate Change, Sustainability & Resiliency (CCSR), in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, seeks a sustainability-minded AmeriCorps VISTA to fight poverty and empower our community by creating a more sustainable and resilient O‘ahu, through empowerment, efficiency, and mitigation and adaptation of the effects caused by climate change. This VISTA member will be assigned to work on energy and water efficiency, in the household, in transportation, and for health and preparedness in the face of climate-enhanced hazards and events. This VISTA will team with three other VISTA members working on 1) climate action planning, 2) external partnerships and network mapping, and 3) affordable housing. All of these VISTA positions will work together to build social infrastructure, expand community partnerships, and secure long-term resources, which will create pathways for economic and social resilience for low-income communities, moving them out of poverty. Through this program, CCSR intends to positively impact low-income communities across the Island of O‘ahu. Collectively, the VISTAs will accomplish this work by delivering climate change solutions and efficiency measures that can reduce Hawai‘i’s high cost of living, linking complementary efforts, and directly assisting vulnerable communities in need of housing and community preparedness assistance.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will analyze energy and water data from multiple sources, build community and household capacity to self-assess behaviors and opportunities for conservation and financial savings, and therefore help alleviate poverty, and connect community members with other supportive resources and existing programs that focus on energy and water conservation/savings. This position will work directly with the CCSR energy and water program managers, respectively, to develop strategies.
