VISTA: Clinch River Valley Initative
 
 
 
The Clinch River Valley Initiative is a collaborative effort of many agencies, nonprofits, local governments and citizens who want to protect and to promote the Clinch River, one of the most biodiverse river systems in North America. The Clinch River Valley Initiative focuses on water quality and environmental education, economic development, outdoor recreation and downtown revitalization. The VISTA member selected for this position will be supervised and mentored by Upper Tennessee River Roundtable, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that serves as a fiscal agent for the Clinch River Valley Initiative. Based in Abingdon, Upper Tennessee River Roundtable focuses on water quality in the Upper Tennessee River Basin in Virginia that includes the Clinch River. Upper Tennessee River Roundtable also focuses on environmental education, pollution prevention, and cleanup. The water quality action team for the Clinch River Valley Initiative is led by Upper Tennessee River Roundtable. The Clinch River Valley Initiative VISTA member will be based in an office within the Clinch River watershed and will focus on outreach and education.

Member Duties : The Clinch River Valley Initiative VISTA member will coordinate the third annual youth summit and will help develop and recruit members for a new youth coalition. The member will assist with the development of a new environmental education center by helping to determine displays for the center and by assisting with promotion. The member will help coordinate guidelines for a new stream monitoring coordinator being funded by a grant to the Clinch River Valley Initiative through Upper Tennessee River Roundtable. The member also will spend some time writing grant applications, planning a fundraiser and assisting with outreach. The VISTA member will collaborate with two committees through the Clinch River Valley Initiative: the water quality action team and the environmental education action team.
