Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative - Elmira
 
 
 
The City of Elmira was selected as one of 16 communities statewide to participate in the Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative (ESPRI). ESPRI is an exciting opportunity for community members to work together to develop and execute an innovative plan to reduce the number of households in Elmira residing in poverty. The Economic Opportunity Program is the front line resource for people living in poverty in Chemung and Schuyler Counties, providing direct services and support for Childcare Youth Care and Family Development through multiple programs. The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will support EOP with Capacity Building data systems project, New Homeless Veterans Project, or Medical Volunteer Driver program.

Member Duties : Work with the Economic Opportunity Program of Chemung and Schuyler County. Experience capacity building projects that focus on reducing poverty in the community through multiple programs. Organize and attend community outreach events and encourage residents to access services through EOP programs. Design and conduct a community needs assessment for Elmira that captures how poverty can be reduced for residents. Use the findings of the study to come up with strategies for implementation.
