Partnership for LA School Readiness and Transitions Project

The Partnership for Los Angeles' Schools mission is to transform schools and revolutionize school systems to empower all students with a high-quality education. The VISTA project will seek to build the capacity of schools and families to serve students during school transitions and the first year of schooling in order to benefit the thousands of students in 18 Partnership network schools, as well as other students and families living in high-need Los Angeles communities. Four VISTA members will contribute to the goal of the project by performing activities such as assessing the landscape of early education and school feeder patterns, strengthening communication, planning, and partnerships between schools, performing direct outreach to families, and developing and enhancing summer bridge programming at schools over the course of three years. The VISTAs will survey the education landscape in each of the communities served by the Partnership and work with schools to support direct outreach to families and communities as a complement to school-based readiness and transition work.

Member Duties : The VISTAs will begin their work in the first year of the program by surveying the education landscape in each of the communities served by the Partnership, including the feeder patterns that lead into each Partnership school and the offerings for childcare and early education services. As VISTAs will likely begin their work sometime in the middle of the school year, they will also have the opportunity to document current school readiness and transition programs at schools by interviewing and observing school leaders and teachers during their first months in the position. VISTAs will also work with schools to support direct outreach to families and communities as a complement to school-based readiness and transition work. VISTAs in year one will create best practice toolkits based on their research and on-site participation, which will permanently increase the capacity of schools, families, and community partners to assist students.
