La Puente Community and Resource Development Associate
The mission of La Puente is to meet immediate needs and empower people to live independently with dignity. La Puente is a nonprofit organization that serves the homeless, the hungry, and people living in poverty in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. The SLV is an expansive, rural area larger than the state of Massachusetts, consisting of six counties. It is a large, beautiful, isolated valley located in south central Colorado hours from the nearest cities. Over 20% of SLV residents live at or below the poverty line and are in need of some type of support. La Puente meets the need created by this level of poverty by providing emergency shelter, food assistance, supportive housing, self-sufficiency services, homeless prevention, community outreach services, and job readiness training for the homeless and community members in crisis. This position will work to support this incredibly important work. This position is a great opportunity for professional development in nonprofit marketing, communications, fundraising, capacity building and public relations. It offers a unique and hands on experience in understanding and communicating the struggles of rural poverty and creative opportunities to aid those in need. This is also an opportunity to live in an intentional community with housemates who are also involved in serving the underprivileged in rural Colorado.
