Hands On Atlanta Schools-Based AmeriCorps Members provide tutoring, enrichment, and family engagement to more than 2,000 K-12 students attending Title I schools in the Greater Atlanta area. Hands On Atlanta is seeking half-time members to provide literacy and/or math tutoring and enrichment programming to elementary students at two Atlanta Public Schools and one independent charter school. School-Based AmeriCorps Members support Hands On Atlanta's Discovery Program, a Saturday morning mentoring and enrichment program that operates 5 -6 Saturday mornings a semester at various elementary schools. Ideal candidates will be aspiring educators, counselors, social workers, and/or nonprofit or youth development professionals who are passionate about serving the needs of economically-disadvantaged children. Applicants must be available to serve a near full-time schedule, including at least two Saturday mornings per month (900 hours total), from August 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. The term typically ends on May 31 but there is a month afforded to Members who need to make up time in order to earn their education award. Half-time members will receive a living stipend of $8000 (paid semi-monthly - on 15th and last day of month) and a half-time education award of $2,960 for the 900 hours of service. Members may qualify for childcare assistance and may apply for loan forbearance on federal loans that qualify (Members must submit their own applications to their loan holder).
