FIT VISTA-Volunteer Organizer

The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester (MHCGM) is a private, nonprofit system of comprehensive mental health services that for more than 57 years has been available to Manchester-area citizens who experience problems with mental illness, often with co-occurring substance abuse. This year we will serve over 11,000 individuals, including 800 seniors; 2,000 children and adolescents; and over 4,600 people living with a serious, persistent mental illness (SPMI). We provide 24/7 emergency psychiatric response to the community. With a staff of more than 400 operating over 30 programs, we are the largest provider of outpatient behavioral health services in New Hampshire. Many people experience illness which disruptively impacts their quality of life but which does not qualify as SPMI under the NH Bureau of Behavioral Health’s criteria; therefore, they do not qualify for state financial support. For people who lack the resources to cover the cost of the care they need, MHCGM extensively fundraises to be able to respond to all those in need regardless of their inability to pay. Our mission is to provide an accessible, comprehensive, integrated, evidence-based system of mental health services that empowers individuals to achieve recovery and serves to promote personal and community wellness. For more information on MHCGM, please visit www.mhcgm.org.
