R.O.C.K Mat-Su Youth Leadership Council

R.O.C.K. Mat-Su (Raising Our Children With Kindness) is a collaborative of community members – including individuals and organizations – joining together to promote family resilience and reduce child maltreatment. R.O.C.K. works to build social supports, eliminate silos, and influence systems that affect kids and families throughout the borough, all in support of achieving the goal of ending child abuse in Mat-Su. It is R.O.C.K. Mat-Su’s belief that the development of a Youth Leadership Council (YLC) and the inclusion of a youth voice in our work is necessary to reach this goal. The R.O.C.K. Mat-Su staff are proposing to host an Americorps volunteer whose primary task would be the recruitment, development, and management of a youth leadership council. The primary target group would be 12-18 year olds in the Mat-Su borough, who would be thoroughly trained before being asked to serve on the council. The Amreicorp volunteer will ensure the YLC has diverse representation from across the borough, which is roughly the size of West Virginia. Once trained, the youth council would then be asked to help guide the work of R.O.C.K. Mat-Su, with the potential to serve as youth voices on the boards/committees of our community partners as well. BENEFITS: Monthly stipend ($1,550 ), relocation (up to $600), health benefits, child care assistance, and Education Award ($5,810)
