Arc of Weld County Fund Development Associate VISTA

The Arc of Weld County (AWC) is an affiliate chapter of the Arc of US, comprised of over 700 chapters across the nation. Unlike other chapters, the Colorado chapters only provide advocacy services and are not service providers, such as residential placements, day program providers, etc. Our agency offers individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) an objective perspective positioned to enable the person with I/DD to pursue their dreams, desires and future. Advocacy services are provided to children and adults, as well as their families, to better understand how to improve their individual circumstances while inducing systematic change within their community. Clients are taught advocacy skills and empowered to seek out their own opportunities throughout their lives. Advocates do not act in place of the client and/or family; they teach and demonstrate objective, tactful, problem solving, advocacy skills that can be easily replicated. It is never the intention of our advocacy efforts to make decisions for a person with I/DD or to be a constant enabling presence throughout their lives, but rather to provide skill acquisition so that one day that person will no longer need our supports and will be on the path of self-determination. AWC also provides education and training support to our clients including: support group meetings, educational classes for parents regarding Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), classes for people with I/DD regarding safe relationships, and sometimes just fun activities such as community pool parties. Our sphere of influence is vast, as each year we support hundreds of clients through our mission, however, we believe our efforts impact thousands of lives daily through our quality community interactions and efforts toward positive systems change. The AWC provides our services throughout Weld County and Northeastern Colorado and all services are without cost.
