Harvest Against Hunger Slow Food SW WA

Harvest Against Hunger (HAH) is a program of Rotary First Harvest. Based in Seattle, the HAH program acts as a produce recovery program incubator, working with partner host sites to place AmeriCorps VISTAs across Washington State and in a national cohort. These VISTA members serve as coordinators, building localized, sustainable community food projects and produce recovery programs that grow connections between growers and food banks to increase the amount of fresh nutritious produce available to people experiencing food insecurity. In Vancouver, WA, the HAH VISTA project is located at Urban Abundance, a project of Slow Food SW WA. The VISTA will assess community interest and needs, strengthen community outreach & development, and increase farmer and orchard engagement and produce recovery support in order to expand area gleaning capacity. Captured produce through the gleaning effort will be distributed through the local hunger response network to benefit individuals and families in need who may live at or below federal levels of poverty. Are you interested in hunger relief, food waste, sustainable agriculture, nutrition, or public health? Want to build your skills as a community organizer and leader by creating community buy-in and strengthening relationships between food banks and farmers? Interested in capacity building and program sustainability? Come join a network of committed AmeriCorps VISTA to increase the healthy food accessible to food insecure populations.
