WSC, City of Tacoma, Green Building Specialist
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps member will serve the Environmental Services Department and the Office of Environmental Policy and Sustainability to increase knowledge about green building practices and barriers to participation by engaging in research as well as community outreach and education. The member will gather information to help the City learn how to incorporate practices and develop programs that encourage green building in Tacoma. The member will intervene to address gaps in knowledge of City staff, members of the building community and potential homeowners. The member will also affect positive behavior change through education and outreach with the goal of increasing green building participation in Tacoma. Also submit cover letter and resume to www.sustainability@cityoftacoma.org This position is contingent on funding.

Member Duties : - Research and understand best green building practices and their environmental and other benefits. - Develop a guide for City staff and/or members of the building community consisting of best green building practices, including local and regional resources. - Research and understand the barriers to adopting supportive behaviors. - Research solutions to address existing barrers, and develop an action plan for implementing high priority, feasible solutions. - Develop a targeted stakeholder list including businesses, agencies, community groups, and individuals that have the potential to integrate green building practices or philosophy into their operations. - Develop educational presentations on best practices and deliver presentations to stakeholders and City staff. - Conduct educational outreach at community events such as the South Sound Sustainability Expo. - Mobilize and manage volunteers as needed.
