NJOHSP Homeland Security - Inter-Religious Engagement
 
 
 
AmeriCorps Members will be assigned to the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP) located in Hamilton, New Jersey. The NJOHSP AmeriCorps member service position is for six (6) months, full time. Members’ primary task will be to work with the NJOHSP’s Interfaith Advisory Council, which brings together government agencies and the interfaith communities in the State to discuss topics to establish trust and build safer, more secure communities. Through the Drew University Community Policing Initiative Inter-Religious Engagement and Cooperation AmeriCorps service opportunity, members will play a vital role in the planning and execution of projects that create a forum where law enforcement, public officials, government agencies, grassroots community organizers, leaders of faith communities, educators, parents, and youth can come together to share their ideas and concerns with one another, while engaging in social activities and sustainable partnerships designed to bring police and public together in dialogue.

Member Duties : Members participate in planning & execution of quarterly Interfaith Advisory Council meetings through NJ’s Office of Homeland Security & Preparedness. Design & develop no-cost customized security training & exercise workshops for faith groups & organizations. Training topics include, but are not limited to, terrorism awareness, active shooter response, & suspicious activity reporting. Plan, host, & participate in interfaith gatherings to promote greater understanding & knowledge between faith-based & law enforcement communities. Assist NJOHSP with development of programs for younger participants of faith-based organizations & creating youth & young adult council. Develop security and preparedness resources to publish on website & social media platforms. Assist in tracking & monitoring of program statistics, including but not limited to no. of organizations receiving training & no. of workshop attendees. Survey public about current attitudes. Driver’s license & reliable vehicle required
