This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/39Vd5. Health Care Coalition of Southern Oregon is a non-profit organization that advances health equity through community partnerships. One program is Healthy Start of Southern Oregon, one of 100 national Healthy Start programs dedicated to reducing disparities in maternal and infant health status in high risk communities. The Healthy Start program supports women before, during, and after pregnancy by addressing their health and social service needs, strengthening family resilience, and engaging community partners to enhance systems of care. Healthy Start works to assure access to culturally competent, family-centered and comprehensive health and social services for women, infants and their families and provides a forum for community voices in efforts to improve health. Healthy Start programs participate in Community Action Networks that mobilize health care, social service and other providers to coordinate services, and steer local action to address social determinants of health related to poor birth outcomes. The VISTA will be serving in Roseburg, located in beautiful Southern Oregon. Many say Roseburg is "close to everything," with a short drive to the Oregon Coast, Crater Lake and Eugene. The Umpqua River has world-class fishing, mountain biking, rafting and kayaking. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Roseburg is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.
