Umatilla County Engagement and Wellness VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training and professional development throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/39Vd5. With over 17% of Umatilla County residents living in poverty, Umatilla County Public Health targets its services, education, and outreach efforts toward improving the health and quality of life of those in need. Umatilla County Public Health is dedicated to promoting, protecting, and preserving the health of our community. Oregon has formed coordinated care organizations (CCOs) to deliver better care and lower costs. More than 30% of Umatilla County residents are eligible for health insurance through the Oregon Health Plan. Each CCO has Local Community Advisory Councils to address local needs and hear concerns of insurance plan members. The VISTA will work to engage members and give them a voice. The VISTA will also work to shift adolescent social norms from seeking healthcare services only for treatment to utilization of preventative healthcare services. The VISTA will be one of two VISTAs serving in Pendleton, Oregon. This town in Eastern Oregon has a feel of the old west with small town charm and was named as the Top 10 Western Town in the country! Best known for legendary rodeo, fine woolens and leather craftsmanship, Pendleton has a well-deserved reputation as a town where the best of western heritage lives on. Umatilla’s location on the Columbia River in Eastern Oregon makes it a great place for outdoor adventure, cultural experience, and small town immersion. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Pendleton is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.
