This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/39Vd5. At Multnomah County Health Department, we have a vision of healthy people in healthy communities. Our mission is to work in partnership with the communities we serve--to assure, promote and protect the health of the people of Multnomah County. With the program’s values of accountability, collaboration, stewardship, and empowerment our mission is to reduce tobacco-related disease and death in our community. This includes creating smoke free environments, and reducing tobacco-related disparities in partnership with the communities we serve. Because tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death, your work as a VISTA for the Tobacco Control and Prevention Program will work to alleviate poverty and serve low income community members in Multnomah County. Oregon has one of the highest rates of illegal tobacco sales to minors, and tobacco/nicotine addiction disproportionately affects people below the poverty line and communities of color. Take advantage of the County employee trainings to learn skills/programs, gain knowledge, and advance your career. Working for Multnomah County is optimal for building your network! We work with numerous organizations and communities and are set in the ideal location of Portland, Oregon. Experience the beauty by going hiking, enjoy your cup of coffee, and join the bike culture and bike around the city of whimsy and quirkiness. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Portland is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.
