Klamath County Prevention and Health Promotion VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training and professional development throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/39Vd5. Klamath County is a beautiful, rural community located in southern Oregon where the Cascade Mountain Range meets the Oregon high desert. Klamath County is also home to the amazing Crater Lake National Park. The diverse landscape provides a multitude of outdoor recreation opportunities; however, the vast expanse also creates barriers to achieving optimal health and well-being. With nearly 20 percent of residents in poverty, Klamath County Public Health is actively working with community partners to address the contributing factors to poor health, one of which is poverty. The agency recently formed a local oral health coalition, an important initiative to increase access to much needed oral health services. The agency also joined the community task force to address opioid use. Finally, as a part of the Healthy Klamath coalition, the agency is collaborating with partners on the third Community Health Assessment and the Community Health Improvement Plan. Another major initiative happening in the community is the Blue Zones Project (BZP). Klamath Falls is the first BZP demonstration community in Oregon. The BZP strives to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. The agency works closely with the BZP to make lasting changes in the community to improve health. It is an exciting time to live and work in Klamath County! Join our team as we work on many great initiatives to promote a culture of health in Klamath County.
