The Collin County History Museum, located in McKinney, TX, is an archival museum with historical artifacts, photographs, documents, diaries, manuscripts, historical maps, archival newspapers, and land records that provide valuable research information for genealogists, historians, authors, teachers and students. The museum has a library collection of books dedicated to Collin County and Texas History. Docents also provide interactive educational programming for students across Collin County. The mission of the Collin History Museum is to Preserve and Honor the Past, Connect with the Present and Embrace the Future. We are committed to the collection and preservation of the rich heritage and history of the people and events that helped shape the place we proudly call home, McKinney and Collin County. The Program Curriculum Development VISTA will develop after school and summer educational programming to promote literacy and language development through meaningful and engaging technology rich activities for 3rd through 5th grade students. AmeriCorps VISTA members perform only indirect service; interaction with clients will be limited and the member will spend the majority of his or her time in an office setting. However, the Collin County History Museum VISTA will play a dynamic role in ending poverty by increasing educational opportunities for low income children. As a Collin County History Museum Program Curriculum Development VISTA you will be part of a cohort coordinated by the AmeriCorps VISTA North Texas project at Chisholm Trail RSVP, Inc. Member Duties : Bring history to life and educate children about their past as the Program Curriculum Development VISTA. The Collin County History Museum Program Curriculum Development VISTA will develop after school and summer educational programming to promote literacy and language development through meaningful and engaging technology rich activities for 3rd through 5th grade students. Programs will focus on educational requirements of 3rd-5th graders and will incorporate hands-on, interactive and engaging learning. Major duties will include researching and designing program curriculums to be used for after-school programs and summer enrichment camps, developing print and digital educational materials to educate the public and educators about offered programming, community outreach and writing grants to fund the educational opportunities created. Applicants should be creative, a self-starter, have exemplary written and oral communication skills and be comfortable working with technology.
