* BMVP-Expand Employment & Training Opportunities for Women

Dress for Success works to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional clothing, and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. In the state of Montana, 15.8% of women are considered low-income, compared to their male counterparts at 14%. Poverty, incarceration, lack of training or education, and lack of child care contributes to unemployment in low-income women in Billings. In Montana, a livable wage for an adult with a child is $23.29 per hour. The median wage for a full-time, year-round working woman in Montana is $31,696 (approximately $15.24/hour). In Montana, women are paid 74 cents for every $1 paid to men. Access to free employment training opportunities and education are key components in the fight against poverty. As women learn the basic skills of obtaining and maintaining their employment, they start to develop skills to eventually advance in their profession. This project will alleviate poverty by serving women with educational and training opportunities, helping them to learn necessary skills to achieve economic independence. Teaching lifelong skills to women will encourage long-term employment and will help break the cycle of poverty.
