Service Year NC VISTA - United Way of Pitt County

The United Way of Pitt County is a community based organization located in Greenville, NC that is focused on creating lasting community change by addressing the underlying causes of community issues. Our focus areas are school success, basic needs, and workforce development. One of our top priorities is to have all Pitt County children enter school “ready to learn” by providing them monthly with a developmentally appropriate book. We are located in Uptown Greenville, in the thriving Dickinson Avenue Historic District. Greenville is a vibrant up-and-coming city and is home to East Carolina University. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills: • Excellent organizational skills • Comfortable working with a diverse group of community members and organizations. • Ability to present ideas in a style that is clear, fluent, and to the point; • Able to compose correspondence and reports for high level officials and administrators. This opportunity will help the VISTA improve his/her interpersonal and public speaking skills. There are numerous opportunities to network with local municipalities, the university, medical center, other non-profits and the school system. We currently have multiple projects and collaborations going on with all of these entities.

Member Duties : The VISTA at the United Way will support the Imagination Library Program and will be responsible for initiating and maintaining relationships with a variety of community organizations (e.g., preschools, birthing center, university) for the purposes of promoting and enrolling children in Imagination Library. The VISTA will also contribute to the planning and implementation of coordinated community outreach and engagement efforts which are aligned with an integrated strategic communications plan. The VISTA activities will also include the conversion (transference) of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program to the Martin-Pitt Partnership for Children (MPPC). The VISTA will help train MPPC personnel in the Imagination Library Program.
