Tandem Oakland Community Engagement VISTA

Tandem plans to grow its community capacity building programming over the next two to three years, which will use a Train the Trainer model to dramatically increase the number of families that are supported in early learning and literacy development. Our community capacity building work will make early learning programming accessible to families that are not connected to preschool or formal care by reaching people through their language, neighborhoods, and respecting their culture and family care choices. To make this growth possible, Tandem needs to ensure greater staff capacity at the community level in all three Bay Area counties. As a result, we plan to host three AmeriCorps VISTA members in our San Francisco and Alameda offices. By hosting VISTA members over the next two to three years, Tandem will secure the staff resources it needs to implement, test, refine, and grow its community programming across the Bay Area. This Community Engagement VISTA will be based in our Oakland office and will be critical to supporting the design and implementation of our early literacy and community programming throughout the city. Specifically the Community Engagement VISTA will support the programs team to: support the Tandem programs team with research projects, develop and streamline internal systems to improve efficiency in program work, recruit and train volunteers for participation in various events and programs, organize and coordinate community based early learning and literacy events, gather and analyze feedback from educators and families who participate in our programs, and enhance community partnerships that facilitate our role as an early learning provider in the Bay Area.
