19-20 Reno-Sanford Center for Aging-Volunteer & Partnerships

The Sanford Center for Aging's Enhancing Quality of Life and Health Outcomes for Older Adults VISTA project seeks to provide meaningful opportunities for engagement among older adults through the promotion of volunteer programs. The vast majority of elders in our community report feelings of social isolation and loneliness. Social isolation is strongly correlated with an increased risk of adverse health outcomes and low-income older adults are more likely to be isolated. The VISTA member will reduce the impact of poverty on older adults through the promotion of programs designed to enhance social connectedness among older adults. In particular, the VISTA member will support Art Partners and RSVP.

Member Duties : The Volunteer and Community Partnerships Coordinator VISTA member will reduce the impact of poverty on older adults through the promotion of programs, recruitment of volunteers, and development of partnerships designed to enhance social connectedness. The VISTA member will grow capacity for the following programs: Art Partners, a Volunteer Mobility Pilot Program, and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Art Partners is a program between the Sanford Center for Aging and University Galleries at the University of Nevada, Reno and is designed to enhance connectedness and foster new intergenerational relationships through the humanities. The Volunteer Mobility Pilot Program will connect older adults that have mobility concerns with community volunteers for socialization and wellness opportunities (like Art Partners). RSVP aims to match older adults with volunteer opportunities that fill their passions and meet the needs of our community.
