Economic Development Through Renewable Energy and Efficiency

The VISTA will work with another VISTA in continuing efforts to transition the economy of Delta County to be more resilient through local energy solutions. The VISTA will continue building on the resources established for the community, strengthen relationships with community and industry partners, initiate new community outreach and educational opportunities, and implement a new C-PACE campaign aimed at educating the community on energy efficiency upgrades and benefits. This will be done by: 1) Educating the public about renewable energy and C-PACE policy, including benefits of building a stronger local market through renewables. By increasing the local appetite for renewable energy, we can create increased employment opportunities regionally. 2) Coordinate with government and nonprofit organizations to better mobilize energy efficiency and renewable energy for income-qualified households and to increase access to cost effective local solutions. 3) Build valuable grant research and writing skills by identifying possibly funding opportunities for ongoing and future programs at SEI

Member Duties : After the closing of two coal mines in Delta County, the community has been looking for new sources of economic revenue. Solar Energy International has been working on community revitalization and economic diversification through a new local energy market in solar. The previous VISTAs kickstarted a local solar market through three rounds of Solarize campaigns that focused on community-based, educational, group-buy incentive programs. Furthermore, they brought various solar resources to the county through partnerships and programs on the state and federal levels. VISTA #7 will continue building on the resources established for the community, strengthen relationships with community and industry partners, and initiate new community outreach and educational opportunities including a new C-PACE campaign.
