OSMRE VISTA: Cross-Watershed Network/Tamarisk Coalition

XWN is a peer-to-peer learning network that helps river stewards connect and share information with their peers in other watersheds through a variety of lesson sharing venues. The stated mission of XWN is to help resource (land and water) managers connect to their peers in the arid West, and maximize their effectiveness and impact through information sharing, collective capacity building, and collaboration across watersheds. The initiative is collaboratively governed by a steering committee composed of government, non-profit, and private partners, tasked with ensuring that XWN maintains a broad relevance across watersheds in the arid West. The Tamarisk Coalition leads the steering committee and executes XWN programs by hosting the staff capacity, managing the budget, and fundraising. Since 2013, the Network has used workshops, cross-visits and virtual collaboration to convene resource managers across the Southwest. OSMRE/VISTA will: • support local community restoration projects by ensuring that XWN is helping to meet the needs of local groups spearheading economic improvement projects (related to watershed restoration) • assist the sponsoring organization in fostering environmental stewardship by researching watershed concerns, networking with watershed groups, and developing strategic watershed-based planning critical to future funding and project development/implementation, • support environmental education initiatives for the community and sponsoring organization • assist sponsoring organization in enhancing community awareness and involvement through education and outreach.
