The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council serves as the regional planning commission, council of governments, and the economic development district for the three-County region of Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy. The lower Rio Grande Valley is one of the fastest growing areas of the country with advances in economic development opportunities such as SpaceX, numerous binational initiatives and the expansions of The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. The community and economic development planner under the AmeriCorps VISTA program will entail regional research, studies and planning associated with economic development and tourism areas of the region. Member Duties : Performs economic development and community planning work. Coordinating internal and external stakeholder research, planning, and studies regarding economic and community programs. Works under minimal supervision, with latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment. Conduct research and studies in relation to community and economic development resources, projects and programs; Assist in the facilitation of stakeholder meetings/forums; Develop economic and tourism profiles of the region & community; Evaluate results of economic development studies and offer analyses/recommendations; Identify opportunities for regional economic development; Prepare and present data and reports for funding opportunities to support regional and community economic development; Promote regional economic and tourism development opportunities; Communicate and obtain stakeholder input/feedback using a variety of communication channels; May serve as the point of contact for a program or division.
