High Rocks Pocahontas County Free Library Partnership 18-19
Pocahontas County Free Libraries (PCFL) is comprised of five libraries, stretching from one end of our rural West Virginian county to the other. The main branch is in Marlinton, McClintic Library, with additional branches in the communities of Durbin, Green Bank, Hillsboro and Linwood. PCFL’s mission is to “fulfill the informational needs of our residents and visitors”. This can happen in a variety of formats such as; keeping up-to-date on technology, hosting community events and programs, as well as traditional books on shelves. Our services are free and available to all residents and visitors; regardless of age, race, gender, economic status, religion or political affiliation. We have broad support, with over 48,000 visits to our rural libraries last year. Libraries across the country are changing to meet the needs of their patrons and we are no exception. Children’s programming is an area that has room to grow. Libraries compete with technology and social media for the attention and time of our youth, thus we need to offer new and inventive ways to bring people through the door. Children are future patrons of our libraries, and by establishing relevant library programming for children and families we not only create meaningful experiences, we create lifelong library supporters.
