VYDC-Essex CHIPS Youth Service Coordinator
PROGRAM: VT Youth Development Corps members promote hope, justice, and wellbeing for all VT youth. Their service supports innovative initiatives at nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and schools that foster positive youth development and build resilience in youth, helping them avoid opioid use and other unhealthy behaviors. Website: SITE: Essex CHIPS supports, engages, inspires, and empowers youth to make healthy decisions and become community leaders. Our impact is reflected in a higher quality of life for all - particularly those disadvantaged by social inequities & poverty. We primarily serve the Essex (VT) area, and some programs serve youth in the broader region. Our initiatives include-- (1) the Essex Teen Center & Tween Center afterschool programs; (2) FriendCHIPS school-based youth mentoring; (3) the Healthy Youth Coalition; (4) the Adventure Orientation Program (outdoor-based program for students entering high school); (5) Essex Above the Influence (a student-led group promoting positive behaviors to peers); (6) community campaigns to prevent substance use; (7) Teen Mental Health First Aid training; (8) TeenLine/SafePlace; (9) the Quality Youth Development community certification program. We seek a VYDC AmeriCorps member to join our small dedicated team. The AmeriCorps member plays a significant role in planning & leading positive youth development activities that build resilience, ensuring that youth contribute to and benefit from the positive culture of CHIPS programming with a focus on promoting healthy decision-making, inclusiveness, and building quality relationships. Member Duties : The VYDC-Essex CHIPS Youth Services Coordinator AmeriCorps member helps support & expand the Above the Influence (student-led group promoting positive behaviors), the TeenLine/SafePlace, and the Quality Youth Development Project. The member conducts outreach in schools & the community to inform youth about resources (TeenLine, Street Outreach, Teen Center, Above The Influence group, and LGBTQ group). The member assists youth in accessing services. The member recruits, trains, and supports site partners & volunteers and develops relationships with students, families, school administrators, funders, & community partners. The member supports youth through mentoring, the new Teen Food Shelf, the Adventure Orientation Program, the Teen Center, Mentoring, and substance use prevention projects. Minimum Age: 21. Travel: valid license; clean driving record; local travel; monthly travel to AmeriCorps training in Montpelier. Send cover letter, resume, and contact infomation for 2 references.
