The Fort Peck Community College AmeriCorps team will support Poplar High School student to help increase the graduation rate which was only 39% of in the 2015-2016 school year. Along with mentoring youth to graduate high school they will also work to normalize college going through offering different events and academic mentoring. The AmeriCorps team will have the opportunity to serve as near peer mentors in their community and inspire local youth. These members will serve at Poplar Schools, Youth Correctional Services and in the community. The AmeriCorps Team will Implement college access components of American Indian College Fund (AICF) Bridge Curriculum for high school students on the reservation and develop 4 other pre-college activities like FAFSA nights, college tours, College Application Week, etc., that encourage students and families to consider, plan for, and apply for college. The Team members will provide one-on-one support for Poplar High School students in areas such as scholarship and college applications. The AmeriCorps Team will serve at Fort Peck Community College which serves the people of the Fort Peck Reservation and northeastern Montana as a medium of Indian Awareness enabling increased self-awareness. Fort Peck Community College is committed to preserving Indian culture, history, and beliefs, and to perpetuating them among the Indian people of all ages. FPCC promotes self-awareness through education necessary to build a career, a lifestyle, and to achieve a true sense of self-pride. The AmeriCorps Leader will commit to serve at least 1,700 hours over a full year of service and attend all scheduled MTCC trainings.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps Leader will mentor low-income tribal students at Poplar Schools and recruit a team of FPCC student AmeriCorps members. The team will support American Indian College Fund curriculum across the reservation and implement college access components of the curriculum for high school students including pre-college activities, FAFSA nights, college tours, and College Application Week to encourage students and families to consider, plan for, and apply for college. The Team members will provide one-on-one academic mentoring for Poplar High School students. They will engage youth, college students and community members in National Days of service which will focus on community beautification events and community garden maintenance. The leader will do community outreach. The AmeriCorps Leader will collaborate with other local National Service participants to plan and execute community events. They will serve at Poplar Schools, Youth Correctional Services and in the community.
