*MTCC AmeriCorps Leader -- Montana State Unversity Northern

Montana State University Northern Student Success Services supports students with skills needed to remain in college and complete a degree program by creating a personalized Academic Success and Career Plan. This plan, combined with the effort of your team and your personal motivation to succeed, will help guide your first days as a TRIO SSS Scholar through graduation. Little River Institute was created to serve as a center of tutoring, mentoring, and support for American Indian students at MSU-Northern, as well as a source of culturally responsive professional development for MSU-Northern faculty and staff. Montana is the only state in the U.S. with a constitutional mandate to teach American Indian history, culture, and heritage to preschool through higher education students via the Indian Education All Act of 1999. In the state of Montana, Caucasian student high school graduation rates exceed Native American student rates by more than 20%. That same gap is seen in Native American students entering the Montana University System. The percentage of first generation, low income and disabled students is slightly higher for MSUN than it is for other public universities in the state. However, the retention rate of students into their second year of college at MSUN is 10% less than the state average.
