Blackland CDC Volunteer & Special Initiatives Coordinator

The Blackland CDC was incorporated 35 years ago to challenge a long history of blight and neglect that was heightened by continuous annexations by the University of Texas and general disinvestment by the City of Austin. The nonprofit has since garnered 48 units of housing affordable for very low-income families and provides shelter and support services for seniors, disabled, and homeless. Despite intense gentrification pressures, the neighborhood remains a community composed of a majority of African-Americans. In addition to housing, the Blackland CDC develops and manages community gardens, public spaces, a wellness program and a community center
