OneStar: Harris County Dept. of Education ECOBOT VISTA

The Harris County Department of Education formed the Center for Afterschool, Summer and Enrichment (CASE) for Kids in 1999, to mobilize the community to work together to ensure that every child in Harris County has access to quality afterschool programs. CASE for Kids’ mission is to strengthen, support, and sustain afterschool programs and out of school time activities under its three strategic directions: enhancing quality, expanding resources, and driving change. Acting as a local afterschool intermediary, CASE for Kids provides funding, coaching, resources, and trainings to support afterschool programs across 25 school districts and various community organizations within Harris County. The CASE for Kids All-Earth Ecobot Challenge is an innovative engineering competition that engages fourth through eighth grade students in complex problem-solving, while developing critical thinking skills and elevating their confidence in formulating solutions to real-world missions. CASE for Kids aims to expand the Ecobot Challenge, targeting underserved at-risk youth students. The Ecobot VISTA will contibute to the planning, implementation, and management of the Challenge with the assigned CASE for Kids Project Coordinator.
