CASE For Kids Debate League Outreach VISTA, OneStar

The Harris County Department of Education formed the Center for Afterschool, Summer and Enrichment (CASE) for Kids in 1999, to mobilize the community to work together to ensure that every child in Harris County has access to quality afterschool programs. CASE for Kids’ mission is to strengthen, support, and sustain afterschool programs and out of school time activities under its three strategic directions: enhancing quality, expanding resources, and driving change. Acting as a local afterschool intermediary, CASE for Kids provides funding, coaching, resources, and trainings to support afterschool programs across 25 school districts and various community organizations within Harris County. The mission of the Houston Urban Debate League (“HUDL”) is to develop and support competitive debate programs in Houston-area public schools. In partnership with the Houston Urban Debate League (HUDL), CASE for Kids aims to expand the Houston’s high school debate league by creating at least 20 debate teams across Harris County, targeting underserved at-risk youth students. The HUDL VISTA will assist in the planning, implementation, and management of the HUDL project with the assigned CASE for Kids Project Coordinator as well recruitment of teams, mentors, coaches, and students.
