Rivers & Birds is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Taos, NM dedicated to providing joyful, experiential environmental education to public school students and advocating for public land conservation in Northern New Mexico. Rivers & Birds currently provides two programs that give elementary students the opportunity for adventurous, hands-on, outdoor learning on public lands. The Watershed Learning Project, taught each fall, is a 9-day nature immersion program where fifth-grade students learn about local water conservation issues through field studies on BLM and other public lands. The Kids in the Monument Program, taught each spring, takes fourth grade students and their parents for two days of learning and adventure with special emphasis on 'Leave no Trace' practices in BLM's Rio Grande del Norte National Monument.
