* MTCC - Dawson Community College School to Careers

Dawson Community College provides affordable and open access to quality teaching and learning in Glendive, Montana. Dawson Community College is committed to strengthen and build upon the work of the Big Sky Pathways initiative - providing a smooth transition from high school to college and career by increasing relationships between secondary and postsecondary institutions; enhancing and developing new programs for student participation; expanding career counseling; and growing the availability of dual enrollment, high school for college credit, industry-recognized credentials, work-based learning experiences and internships for students. 39.1% of children in Glendive live below the poverty level, significantly higher than the state-wide average. 36.6% of students who do not graduate high school live in poverty. This dual-enrollment project will lead to greater academic engagement and result in declining rates of dropouts, improved high school retention and graduation rates, and matriculation into post-secondary education, which will fight generational poverty and high unemployment rates of Glendive area students through education.

Member Duties : Assess the service area high schools and Dawson Community College current partnerships and current community needs for employment, life skills, and educational trainings; Develop stakeholder involvement activities for Dawson Community College and service area High Schools to educate high school juniors and seniors through a dual-credit enrollment process and build up educational expectations for incoming high school freshman and sophomores; Develop student support systems to increase community engagement in school success efforts; Collaborate with Dawson Community College students to develop a mentor program for service area Middle/High School students and develop the focus on self-esteem and educational goals: such as how to speak publicly and present their projects, portfolio and/or choices as well as develop the poise to respond in an appropriate and collaborative method; Develop sustainable Strategic Planning through inclusive collaborative efforts.
