Statewide Opioid Outreach Coordinator VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/cnayh. The Oregon Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) is part of the Injury and Violence Prevention Section in the Center for Prevention and Health Promotion of the Oregon Health Authority. The PDMP was designed to help health care providers and pharmacists provide patients better care in managing their prescriptions, giving them more complete information to help assure appropriate use of certain prescribed medications. Oregon has one of the highest rates of nonmedical use of opioid painkillers in the nation. Chronic pain and lack of access to substance use disorder recovery and treatment and health care services disproportionately affect people living in poverty across Oregon’s communities. This position is located in Portland, Oregon’s cultural center, dense with diverse organizations, independent movie theaters, unique food options, and art galleries. The exceptional public transit system makes it easy to get around the city without a car, no matter if you’re visiting a food cart pod or a public park. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Portland is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.
