Family Place Resource Center Shelter VISTA Summer Associate

Families in Transition (FIT) is an entrepreneurial, forward thinking, nonprofit organization that provides safe, affordable housing and supportive services to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, enabling them to gain self-sufficiency and respect. With nearly 100 staff, 20 properties (and growing), and 235 housing units, FIT provides an array of housing options including emergency-short term shelter housing, to transitional housing to permanent housing in Manchester, Concord, Dover, and possibly, Wolfeboro, NH. The need for the type of housing and services that Families in Transition offers is growing. We typically receive over 5,000 requests for assistance and we are only able to help about 600 of them, and typically half are children. FIT’s Family Place Resource Center and Shelter provides the City of Manchester with a home for 80 parents with 120 children per year. This brand new facility currently houses a new and expanded emergency family shelter, as well as comprehensive resource center specifically designed to meet the needs of homeless families and children in Manchester, NH. The dual purpose nature of the project ensures that families with complex and varied needs are able to quickly and easily access the services that they need to regain housing stability and long-term wellness.
