UWNI Fundraising (RD) VISTA

United Way of North Idaho’s (UWNI) Literacy Initiatives include Ready! for Kindergarten, a book drive, and a summer learning loss awareness campaign. UWNI has three focus areas: education, financial stability, and health. These areas often overlap, knowing that if a child is sick and/or their family cannot afford healthcare, they will likely not succeed in school. The VISTA Resource Development position supporting our Youth Literacy Initiatives will focus on early childhood education, specifically with low-income, or ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) populations. Ideally, a strong education for children in low-income or poverty-stricken families will break the cycle and create an opportunity for better lives. Our Ready! for Kindergarten program is a free program for parents and caregivers with children ages 2-5 years and is expanding to instruct and provide resources to childcare provider settings as well. The program provides instruction on how to “play with a purpose” to ensure the child is ready entering kindergarten. The United Way Book Drive was created as a mechanism for obtaining books for low-income children all across the state, in partnership with other local United Ways. In North Idaho, our focus is to develop a year-round book resource for low-income youth by partnering with businesses and seeking grants to fund new books to compliment the book drives. In partnership with community libraries, regional school districts, and other nonprofit organizations, our goal is to increase literacy through education and access to books. The Resource Development VISTA will focus on seeking grants and raising funds to support our early childhood education initiatives. However, there will also be the opportunity to assist with the United Way workplace giving campaign and fundraising events throughout the year as well.

Member Duties : The Resource Development (RD) VISTA will secure funding for UWNI early childhood education and ALICE programs by identifying, writing, and submitting grant requests. The individual will also help UWNI raise funds and build awareness in regards to early childhood education through the production of annual and one-time special events. In alignment with other UWNI sponsorship opportunities, the RD VISTA will develop a sponsorship program for early childhood education and ALICE projects. Finally, all aspects of UWNI work is often related to relationships built during the annual Workplace Campaign. The final objective will be to deepen early learning relationships and develop new potential donors and volunteers by engaging and assisting in the annual campaign.
