Mutual Housing Financial Literacy, NeighborWorks VISTA

The Mutual Housing Maximizing Your Credit Program is a pilot program that will increase financial literacy for residents, and create a housing stability program that will access community and financial resources to reduce evictions at three Mutual Housing communities. This program will give residents the opportunity to have on-time rent payments reported to credit bureaus enabling them to build or repair credit history and significantly increase credit scores. Participants will have access to financial literacy training and resources to help them understand their credit history, their relationship to money, and build their financial assets. The Financial Literacy Associate will create new pathways of financial stability by partnering with banks and organizations to support the Maximizing Your Credit Program. Mutual Housing California was created in 1988. Our mission is to develop and operate permanently affordable housing that builds strong and stable communities through resident participation and leadership development. In pursuit of our mission we have developed – either through renovation or new construction --19 mutual housing communities that are home to more than 3,000 low income and very low income families.
