NYIC VISTA @ Korean Community Services of Metropolitan NY
 
 
 
This position is part of the NYIC VISTA program, which is run by the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) and places AmeriCorps VISTAs – referred to as NYIC VISTAs – at nonprofit organizations where they build organizational capacity through community outreach, communications, fundraising, program development and/or volunteer management projects. The capacity that they build is then used by their host organizations to advance their work on providing low-income immigrants with anti-poverty services (e.g., legal services, information about legal rights, healthcare, ESOL classes, education in digital literacy, domestic violence services, work experience programs). NYIC VISTAs are supported by the NYIC with a 3-day training at the beginning of their year of service, a community outreach class, monthly webinars, monthly check-ins with NYIC staff, and ongoing networking opportunities with other VISTAs. The NYIC, www.nyic.org, aims to unite immigrants, members (i.e., NYIC Member organizations) and allies so all New Yorkers can thrive. The NYIC envisions a New York State that is stronger because all people are welcome, treated fairly, and given the chance to pursue their dreams.

Member Duties : VISTA HOST SITE: Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York (KCS), www.kcsny.org, 35-56 159th Street, Flushing, NY 11358. KCS’ mission is to be a bridge for Korean immigrants and the wider Asian community to fully integrate into society and overcome any economic, health and linguistic barriers so that they become independent and thriving members of the community. VISTA ACTIVITIES: The NYIC VISTA placed at KCS will work on communications (e.g., social media, blog posts, press releases, website management) and fundraising (e.g., events, grant applications, mailings) projects. This capacity-building work will support KCS in being able to connect low-income immigrants to immigration legal services (e.g., screenings/consultations, representation) and other programs/services that will support their access to economic opportunity. SERVICE LOCATION: Queens, New York.
