2017 City of San Antonio Diversity & Inclusion VISTA

Recognizing the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion to the City of San Antonio's mission, citywide goals, and core values, the purpose of this position is to support the success of the Diversity and Inclusion Office (DIO). Four annual goals currently drive DIO’s work: (1) establish a shared understanding across the City organization of the meaning and significance of diversity, equity, and inclusion; (2) promote racial equity in City processes; (3) strengthen community awareness and involvement in the office; (4) and improve services for community members submitting discrimination complaints. In March 2017, the City launched a Racial Equity Initiative, inviting 6 departments to pilot racial equity tools in specific programs and begin developing a citywide racial equity strategy. The initiative is in consultation with the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE), a national membership organization for advancing equity in municipalities. The pilot initiative will inform DIO’s 2018-2020 strategic plan. The Community Engagement Coordinator will specifically support DIO’s goal of strengthening community awareness and involvement in the office with a focus on the Racial Equity Initiative.
