Multnomah County Healthy Homes VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/cnayh The goals and the vision of the Environmental Health VISTA position are aligned with the overall Multnomah County Health Department vision: Healthy People in Healthy Communities. In Multnomah County, poverty is prevalent among populations which experience healthcare inequities and health disparities such as racial and ethnic minorities, immigrants, and people for whom English is a second or other language. The VISTA will build on the initial success of a 2 year-long relationship with Catholic Charities by strategizing and collaborating with the other area resettlement agencies to identify and grow a broader and more sustainable program to support the goal for economically disadvantaged refugee families to live safely and comfortably in their homes, prevent physical and emotional stressors in these families, increase housing stability, and foster diverse and vibrant neighborhoods. This position is located in Portland, which is Oregon’s cultural center, dense with independent movie theaters and art galleries. The exceptional public transit system makes it easy to get around the city without a car, no matter if you’re visiting a food cart pod or a public park. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Portland is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.

Member Duties : The VISTA project focuses on building a sustainable, collaborative, program addressing critical healthy housing issues facing newly resettled refugee families in Multnomah County.
