Yamhill County Healthy Futures VISTA
 
 
 
This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. An important aspect of this position will be building strong partnerships with local government, the medical community, local businesses, non-profits, faith-based organizations, educational entities, and community members. The VISTA will serve in historic McMinnville, Oregon in the heart of Willamette Valley, world renowned as wine country. McMinnville is filled with city parks, an aquatic center, sports recreation, and historical sites from the Oregon Trail. The town’s famous 14-block walking tour with over 60 properties and buildings constructed between 188 and1937 are proudly listed under the National Register of Historic Places, a wonderful attraction for any history enthusiast! With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, McMinnville is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.

Member Duties : The VISTA will help improve the capacity of Yamhill County Public Health to serve low-income communities through capacity building projects such as developing strategic planning for outreach to medical providers, identifying fiscal sources, and increasing database of resources for successful outreach and sustainability. In an effort to address poverty and its correlation to health disparities, the VISTA will also research best practices and conduct a gap analysis to identify barriers to accessing health resources and benefits. In collaboration with partners, The VISTA will collaborate with partners to develop referral pathways and emergency response plans to support resource navigation for clients in need of housing and social services. Additionally, the VISTA will support the strategic effectiveness of the “Collective Impact Team” promotional efforts through engaging stakeholders, leveraging new partnerships, and promotion of health services.
