This position is placed with another VISTA in Coos County Health and Wellness, a vibrant, forward-thinking organization. Our mission is to lead Coos County in disease prevention, promote healthy behaviors and healthy families, and create a community that supports healthier lives. The county population of approximately 63,043 lives in urban, rural and frontier communities, with seven cities and several smaller communities. Over the past 20 years, the health status and quality of life have declined due to economic conditions. Unemployment and poverty are among the highest in the state. These great challenges bring great opportunities to make a difference in the lives of the people of Coos County. This position is located in North Bend, on Oregon’s beautiful southern coast. The area features the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, featuring 500-foot dunes, and with the ocean just a few miles away, the adjacent bay, and abundant coastal rivers and forests, you can enjoy outdoor activities, local arts and crafts scene, and the relaxing pace of Oregon coastal life. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, North Bend is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.

Member Duties : The VISTA will strengthen the Coos County Medical Reserve Corps (CC MRC) to improve community resilience with a specific focus on low-income communities who experience health and social inequities.
