Umatilla County Health Improvement Planning VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. Each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. Umatilla County Public Health is dedicated to building a health community in a rural but tight-knit community. We strive to meet community, exceed community expectations, and practice integrity in everything we do. We are proud of our strong relationships with local Community Care Organizations and other community partners who will support and collaborate with the VISTA’s work on a Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) that will integrate public health practices and improve education/outreach efforts to low-income and vulnerable residents of Umatilla County. Umatilla County has a robust professional development program with monthly trainings that cover a wide array of career improvement skill building and information to support new professionals integrating into the public health field; previous VISTAs have secured full-time employment at Umatilla County that aligns with their professional goals. We also offer AmeriCorps VISTAs an additional $150 monthly rental stipend to offset housing costs. The VISTA will be one of two VISTAs serving in Pendleton, Oregon. This town in Eastern Oregon has a feel of the old west with small town charm and was named as the Top 10 Western Town in the country! Best known for legendary rodeo, fine woolens and leather craftsmanship, Pendleton has a well-deserved reputation as a town where the best of western tradition and heritage lives on. Umatilla’s location on the Columbia River in Eastern Oregon makes it a great place for outdoor adventure, cultural experience, and small town immersion. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Pendleton is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.
