Linn County Preparedness & Vulnerable Populations VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training and professional development throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/39Vd5. This position is in Linn County Public Health, located in the southern Willamette Valley of Oregon. Public Health is prevention for a better life, promotion for your health, and protection for you, your family, and your community. Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) is a program within Public Health, to develop and implement strategies to prepare for, mitigate, respond and recover from emergencies that may impact our system and community. The PHEP program works with organizations on planning efforts to address how government, healthcare and local agencies will respond during an emergency. The program also works to build collaborations amongst community partners for preparedness and outreach efforts before a disaster occurs. We know that individuals who have access and functional needs prior to an emergency are among our most vulnerable after the event. They are more likely to not be able to comply with urgent messages and need additional resources to recover. In an effort to build a more resilient community, the Linn Benton Vulnerable Populations Planning Workgroup identified several areas for projects to help support our community members. Further, this VISTA’s service project will identify strategies for increasing awareness and utilization of local resources. The preparedness program collaborates with community partners and will expand outreach methods further into the community.
